DO NOT BE AFRAID, BE OF GOOD CHEER!

Jesus demonstrates the importance of constant prayer. “….He went up into the hills by himself to pray” (v.23).

How often do you spend time alone with God in prayer? Jesus, being fully Man, depended on the Father for success in His ministry (cf. Thessalonians 5:17; John 5:16-24).
In the fearful world that we have found ourselves today, people are longing for a cheer leader, who can banish their fears and restore peace and gladness in a cheerless world.
Here we see two types of fear confronting the disciples of the Lord Jesus and Peter: seeing a man walking on the sea, they were troubled and felt doomed, since this could be nothing but a ghost. Peter, on the other hand was confronted by the raging storm, he defied the storm so long as he focused on the Savior.

His problem came when he looked away from Jesus. He saw the boisterous wind and fear overtook faith and he began to sink. Is this not synonymous with our daily life experiences? We keep afloat so long as we focus on the Savior. We begin to sink, under the weight of fear and pains, the moment we look away from the risen Lord.

“Look and live, my brother, live. Look to Jesus now and live, ….”.
Thought: What are you passing through? With Jesus in the boat, you can smile at the storms of life (v.32).

PRAYER: Pray for travelers today, especially across the sea.

Break down of the guide:

Jesus demonstrated the importance of constant prayer by spending time alone with God, showing His dependence on the Father for success in His ministry. The disciples, including Peter, faced fears that threatened to overwhelm them, but Peter stayed afloat as long as he focused on Jesus. However, when Peter looked away from Jesus, fear took over, and he began to sink, illustrating the importance of keeping our eyes on the Savior. With Jesus by our side, we can overcome life’s storms and challenges, and find peace and gladness, even in a fearful world.

Prayer for Friday:

THANK GOD FOR THOSE WHO WRITE AND PUBLISH CHRISTIAN LITERATURE AND PRODUCE CHRISTIAN PROGRAMMES ON RADIO AND TV.
PRAY THAT THE EYES OF MANY WILL BE OPENED THROUGH READING THE BIBLE AND LISTENING TO THE GOSPEL.
